Case Studies

The following studies were conducted to quantify the illegal dumping problem in the North Central Texas region. The study topics cover a wide range of information from the prevalence of materials and problem areas to how communities attempted to combat the problem. Key finding and recommendations provide insights worth reading for residents and city officials alike.

Regional Stop Illegal Dumping Cost/Benefit Analysis Study (2003)

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), through funding by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), contracted with Reed, Stowe & Yanke, LLC to develop a report studying the costs and benefits of illegal dumping programs in NCTCOG's 16-county region.

The Regional Stop Illegal Dumping Cost/Benefit Analysis Study had two purposes.  First, determine how communities were allocating resources, and how much was being allocated in addressing local illegal dumping problems.  Second, evaluate the most cost-effective and efficient approaches to cleaning up illegal dump sites, establishing and operating environmental enforcement programs, and coordinating educational and outreach programs.

Targeted Illegal Dumper Study (2001)

The North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG), through funding by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ), contracted with Reed, Stowe & Yanke, LLC (part of RW BECK, INC.) to develop this study.

There is a continuous battle to expand and strengthen initiatives to stop illegal dumping. A part of that initiative is to study and document that challenges [the] region faces regarding illegal dumping. The findings from the North Central Texas Council of Governments Targeted Illegal Dumper Study provides information on strategies that can be implemented to helping to curtail illegal dumping, as well as identifying different types of violator profiles normally encountered in this region.
